Over time Mardi Gras
celebrations changed from men only organizations to the start of female only Krewes.
The Gay population of the city has also
had their own organizations and balls.
The organization’s membership list is often a closer held secret than
the “old line Krewes.” The membership of
the male organizations like the rest of the Gay community was devastated by the
AIDS epidemic and was on the rebound when Katrina struck. Few produce favors, but some have glasses and
medallions.
